Caught With Hope

Earth
Forces unseen shift the earth beneath, pulling some of what once stood down into rubble and dust.
Fallen, broken, trapped.
There is still a place to stand, to see, to feel.
The echoes of what once was billow into the openness,
rippling into space and time.
As the rubble is moved aside, lost hope begins to breathe through the cracks.
Quiet and persistent, rising through the destruction.
From ruin, another rhythm; from fracture, a different view.
Air
Ferocious gusts lift the body from the ground, hurling it through the different depths of life.
Groundless, displaced, untethered.
Caught with hope in the open air, suspended between fear and possibility.
It begins to pull like a gravitional force,
relentless and entrapping as the storm itself.
An invisible rope, tethered to the unknown.
Giving into the formidable forces.
Slowly drifting admist calmer winds, down towards the ground.
Displacement to movement. Chaos to clarity.
Beyond the storm, every path is another possibility.
Fire
The glow of distant lava bulges, as viscous orange ropes move stealthily, carving rivers of molten rock into the ground.
Staggering across the insidious landscape, jagged rocks cut through the flesh.
Scars awaiting to be formed.
Searing, suffocating, disorientating.
With time, the ropes of lava solidify into fertile paths.
Slits of sunlight slip through ash-laden clouds as specks of debris
dance through flickering rays of hope.
A spectacle of colours illuminate the reflection of a withering eruption,
as a glowing sunrise emerges.
A road out of hell.
Water
Resting on the shore, gently pulled in by the inexorable waves.
Suddenly adrift on the vast ocean.
Trying to swim, but it becomes too exhausting.
Trying to stay afloat, drenched with fear as the perilious waves plunge the body into unknown depths.
Unanchored, engulfed, drowning.
Eventually, the waters calm.
Hope begins to glimmer across the surface, soft and fragile.
Unseen currents carry the body back towards the shore with mercy.
A deep gaze back into the distance, knowing those restless depths.
Marvelling at the beauty, as a simmering sunset submerges into the water.
What a place this is.
